Traffic Police Station at Tirupati was formed on 1-4-1968 vide GO Ms. No. 320 Home (Police-B) Dept. dt.08-3-1968, with a sanctioned strength of 1 SI, 4 HCs and 20 PC’s.

Subsequently, the strength was increased to 1 SI, 1 RSI, 5 HCs and 31 PCs, vide GO Ms.No. 538 Home (Police-B) Dept. dt. 12-9-1986.

The post of the Station House Officer, Traffic Police Station, Tirupati, was upgraded as Inspector and the strength was enhanced to 1 Inspector, 3 SIs, 1 RSI, 4 ASIs, 15 HCs and 84 PCs under augmentation of Police Force at Tirumala and Tirupati at the cost of TirumalaTirupatiDevasthanams, Tirupati, vide GO Ms.No.431 Home (Police-D) Dept. dt. 20-7-1991, under which an additional staff of 1 Circle Inspector, 2 SIs, 4 ASIs, 6 HCs, 40 PCs, 1CrPC Typist and 2 Police Constable driver posts were sanctioned, in addition to the existing strength.

As per G.O.Ms No.-137,dt. 08-06-2010 of Govt. of A.P, Urban Police District, Tirupati formed under which Traffic.P.S, Tirupati was upgraded as A- Grade Police Station and an additional staff of 01-DSP,02-CIs, 06-Sis, 08-ASIs, 18-HCs and 86-PCs were sanctioned in addition to the existing strength.

As per G.O.Ms No.-202 Home (Service-III) Department dt:-28.12.2018of Govt. of A.P, order for up-gradation of ASI’s to PC’s in all districts. As mention in the above G.O. learned the Superintendent of Police, UPD, Tirupati has issued order vide D.O.No.32/2019, C.NO.A1/01/01/2019 Dt:-05.01.2019. In Traffic PS, 18 HC post was upgraded to 21 posts and 86 PC post was downgraded to 82 posts.

JURISDICTION:
                            Initially, the jurisdiction of Traffic PS, Tirupati was within Municipal Corporation limits of Tirupati. In GO Ms. No. 607 Home (Police-D) Dept. dt.4-10-1986, when the jurisdictions of all the Police stations were re-aligned co-terminus with Revenue Mandals under Mandal set up, the jurisdiction of Tirupati Traffic PS remained to be Tirupati.

ACCOMMODATION:
                             (a) In the 90’s, Traffic PS was located in a lane behind Group Theatres in Nehru Street in a TTD building and after 1995, a separate building was constructed by the side of the earlier Tirupati East PS/Circle office building abutting the railway track, opposite to TTD Guest House.

On 29-10-2002, the new Traffic PS building was inaugurated at Kummaramitta, Tirupati by Sri T. DevendraGowd, Honourable Home Minister, Govt. of AP, Hyderabad. Sri P. Ramulu, IPS, the then Director Genl. &Inspr. Genl. of Police, AP, Hyderabad, Sri Umesh Kumar, IPS, Housing Board IGP, Sri A. Sivanarayana, IPS, Inspr. Genl. of Police(L & O), RR, Hyderabad and Sri A.V. Narayana, IPS, Deputy Inspr. Genl. of Police, AnantapurRange, Anantapur graced the function. The new Police station was inaugurated during the tenure of Sri P. Ram Narayan, IPS. Supdt. of Police, Chittoor and Sri A. Ravichandra, Addl., Supdt. of Police, Tirupati.

Total Police station building is constructed in Government land and the total area of the Police Station is 1339 Sq. meters or 14,407.64 Sq.ft and the plinth area in which the station building is 217.10 Sq. meters or 2,335.99 Sq. ft. Remaining vacant place is being used for parking vehicles, keeping the seized vehicles etc. North side to the Station vacant place is 618 Sq.meters used as Indian Oil petrol Bunk, it is operated by the Police Department.

(b) There are quarters for civil police only at Balaji Colony, Tirupati PS. Only 01 ASIs, 01HC and 05 PCs are residing in the Police quarters and the remaining staff are all residing in rented buildings and getting adequate house rent allowance.

PARADE GROUND:
                               There is no separate parade ground. Parade is being taken at the AR parade ground at M.R Palli.

VEHICLES:
                               Two Mahindra Bolero white colour vehicles allotted to DSP-1 and DSP-2, Mahindra XUV 500 maroon colour vehicle is allotted to Inspector of Police, one Tata Sumo is allotted to SI, and 10 two wheelers are allotted to remaining Task force officers of SI’s and White colts mobile parties of Traffic PS, Tirupati.

COMMUNICATION:
                              Two static VHF sets, 35 Man packs, 10 chargers, 10 spare batteries are provided to the Traffic PS, Tirupati for communication purpose.

DUTIES OF TRAFFIC POLICE:
                            The organization and functioning of Traffic Police station, is defined in Order Nos. 701, 702 and 703 of APP Manual Part – I, Volume – II.

                           The entire Tirupati Traffic PS jurisdiction is monitored by Dy.Supdt.of Police-1 and Inspector of Police, Traffic PS, Tirupati. The Entire jurisdiction has divided into 6 Sectors and they are allotted to the 6 SI’s each one. They are issued with man packs. Six White Mobiles are formed consists 1 ASI/HC and allotted each with one two wheeler. One Special mobile were consisting of 1 SI with 1 HG were being deputed to the assigned areas on simultaneous basis. Two Toeing vehicles are allotted to Traffic PS, Tirupati.Toeing Vehicle - 1 and Toeing vehicle -2 are lift the violation vehicles at congestion areas.
